
Wesley Prater has served three two-year terms as
Washtenaw County Commissioner for District 4 from January 1, 2001
through December 31, 2006. Currently he is serving as
Washtenaw County Road Commissioner, a position he has held since
January 1, of 2007.
During his long period of service, he has not rested on his laurels,
but rather engaged himself in project after project affecting the
community. With the many serious problems still facing
Washtenaw County today -
jobs;
renewable energy; and
land use - Wesley continues to commit himself to serving as a
leader for the people, addressing these issues in a timely and
fiscally responsible manner.
Commissioner Prater was born in Floyd County, Bonanza,
Kentucky. One summer, he came to the state of Michigan seeking
employment, and he remained in Michigan. His first job was with
Kaiser-Frazier, followed by a short stint at Wayne Lincoln Mercury.
Wes then joined a masonry crew as a laborer, and eventually became a
bricklayer. He worked as a bricklayer in Local #14 for ten years.

Wesley lives in York Township with his wife,
Barbara. He is the father of two grown sons, Joseph and Gregory. In
his spare time, Wesley enjoys Bluegrass music; camping, and
gardening.
